Cry through the fog, until the ground is wet (2025)
Sometimes when I see a loved one with a downcast gaze or sunken countenance, my heart seeks to sooth…

A Sunday Morning
It is a Sunday morning in the fall and I’m sitting in front of my house, I’m not in any pain and I can feel it. Instead, I feel the chill in the air

Can we innovate our way out of loneliness and isolation?
Having spent more than two decades in the private sector before transitioning to the non-profit realm, I've grown increasingly aware of the profound yet subtle impact of loneliness on civic tolerance and business innovation alike...

Leaders: We had one job
You have one job. I hear you laughing through cyberspace. No, this is not a joke. I’m completely serious. So, what is the one job of leadership pray tell?

The Joy of the 3 “Rs”: Revelation, Responsibility, and Relationship
Recently I completed Steven Garber’s book “Visions of Vocation”. Mr. Garber’s work was deeply impactful to me and I want to share some thoughts.

Your Platform is Powerful...puppets or politics
You have a platform and we want to hear from you...all of you.

Make Decisions that ONLY You Can Make
I heard a speaker at a recent conference discuss the idea of elevating in your work through making what the Kansas Leadership Center calls 'conscious choices.’

A father's reliance
On this Father's Day I've been battling feeling overwhelmed. The responsibility, the financial provision, the mentoring and nurturing, etc... of the 5 beautiful children God has blessed me with. I love them and am thankful for them, and I'm battling a thought that they need and will need more than I can provide.

My last words
As many of you know my wife Kate and I have 5 children ranging in age from 15-2 years of age. We are busy in our day to day world and often feel more like an ATM machine mixed with a taxi service. Distributing money, resources and providing transportation. That is what we do.

Unity Project-14
Our primary purpose in our walk with God is that of a ‘son or daughter of God’. The thing about this primary identity is that our other roles in our lives often become exalted over this identity. It’s a real battleground. We usually say we are the worker, the husband, the wife, the boss, the father, the mother, the brother, the pastor, the rebel, the consumer, etc.., etc… Some of these other identities are fabulous and admirable, but the catch is that if we seek them first then we limit our ability to do any of them to the fullest potential that God intended.

Unity Project Week #13
Me and you as the prodigal son…the day after.
There are obviously many ways to express the compassion and love that God has for us, but perhaps my favorite is the prodigal son story.

Unity Project Week #12
We live in an individualist society in the midst of an individualist age. We want a customized experience, tailored specifically for each of us.

Unity Project Week #5-6
Focusing on the outward appearance is like putting lipstick on a pig.
As we are building the thought of what is the church? As I talk to people, think, and pray I have been struck by how much I still think of “church” in particular Christian Unity from an external perspective. I read a verse that has left me shaken the last couple weeks.

Unity Project Week #4
People are “busy”. This epidemic of busyness is officially taking over. I see it getting the better out of most. I see young people, old people, rich people, poor people, unemployed people, people with multiple jobs, devout faith followers, agnostics and atheist and beyond all pulled in many directions and confessing “man I’m just so busy”. What is this force that drives us to wear busyness as a badge of honor?

Unity Project Week 3
I’m going to bet that if we ask God a question that He will answer. That’s called prayer, right? So, this is less of a blog and more of a prayer. Please join in it with me.
Do we believe God is good?

Unity Project-Week 2
Today was our second week of focused prayer centered around the topics of: What is “The Church”? Is it an attainable and appropriate goal for the churches and individuals in Sedgwick, KS to be unified? If so, How do we do this? What specifically are we unified about?
